Learn more about Blanc de Blancs champagne

A Blanc de Blancs Champagne is a sparkling wine from the Champagne region made exclusively from white grapes (mainly Chardonnay).

In Champagne, the Chardonnay grape variety dominates Blanc de Blancs wines. Less frequently used white grape varieties include Pinot Blanc, Petit Meslier, and Arbane.

Blanc de Blancs is distinguished by its marked freshness, aromas of white flowers, citrus fruits, sometimes white-fleshed fruits, and a minerality ("flint," spark stone) associated with certain Champagne terroirs.

It pairs very well with seafood (oysters, scallops), fish, and light dishes. It is particularly well suited as an aperitif.

Thanks to its high acidity and fine structure, a quality Blanc de Blancs can age well. With age, it develops secondary aromas such as brioche, hazelnut, and almond.

Blanc de Blancs is produced exclusively from white grapes. Blanc de Noirs is made from black grapes (e.g., Pinot Noir or Pinot Meunier) but is vinified as a white wine. The aromatic and structural profiles differ: finesse and minerality vs. roundness and fruitiness.
