Founded in 1760, Maison Lanson is one of the oldest Champagne Houses and has remained a family-owned and independent business ever since. Today, it cultivates 57 hectares of its own vineyards, including 16 hectares of organic and biodynamic vineyards, and sources more than 100 different crus from its partners. This wide range of crus, combined with a rare collection of reserve wines and extended aging in the cellar, allows Maison Lanson to produce cuvées with an authentic style that blend elegance, freshness, and vitality.

Among Maison Lanson's iconic cuvées is the Cuvée Blanc de Blancs. A cuvée full of delicacy and finesse that magnifies the freshness that is the hallmark of the Lanson style. But also the Cuvée Black Réserve, whose freshness, complexity, and fullness will seduce connoisseurs of wine and gastronomy. Maison Lanson also stands out with its Cuvée Green Label, the House's first organic champagne, which offers a perfect balance between freshness, fruitiness, and elegance.

So, in 1760, François Delamotte started the champagne house with the same name in Reims, where his cellar was already. The family motto, "Vive et me ama" (Live and love me), was added to the family coat of arms. François Delamotte got his oldest son Alexandre involved in this business adventure, and that's how the Delamotte Père & Fils brand was born. When the Order of Malta was dissolved in 1798, François Delamotte's youngest son, Nicolas Louis Delamotte, returned from the island, where he had been serving as a Knight of the Order of Malta, and joined the estate founded by his father. It was he, the youngest son, who succeeded his father and chose the Maltese cross as the estate's emblem. A new chapter began when Jean-Baptiste Lanson, a long-time friend and associate of the Delamottes, gradually took on an important role in the management of the company. He succeeded Nicolas-Louis Delamotte, the youngest son, when the latter died and changed the name of the company to J-B Lanson et Compagnie.

One of the most famous sparkling wines

Today, Lanson champagne is the most important brand of the Lanson-BBC group, which is the second largest champagne group behind LVMH. The brand's wines can be found in more than 80 countries around the world. Based in Reims, it has built its reputation on sparkling wines made mainly from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. But also by its choice not to use malolactic fermentation, a technique that softens the wine. The house owns vineyards across all the crus of the AOC appellation, with fairly old vines, but its most iconic vineyard is located in Reims. This is Clos Lanson, 1 hectare of vines planted in the city center, on a chalk plateau just above the cellars.

Pinot Meunier is under-represented in the house's blends because of its lesser ability to withstand time and age.

A unique visitor experience

Although Black Label Brut is the estate's best-known cuvée, particularly in France, it is not the only Brut on the market. The Black Réserve is particularly noteworthy, but we mustn't forget the Rosé Label and, for several years now, the Green Label, an organic champagne. The Noble Cuvée range (Brut, Blanc de Blancs and Rosé) has unfortunately disappeared, but it demonstrated the great capacity of these wines to stand the test of time. These champagnes offer a memorable tasting experience and an opportunity to discover the many facets of the appellation.

Lanson offers a range focused on a well-defined type of wine: fresh, taut, and delicate. This is a type of wine that few houses in the beautiful AOC Champagne appellation can claim to produce. But there is also a wine cellar where you can discover very old vintages dating back to the 1980s. These wines, which are several decades old, offer an incredible opportunity for discovery and tasting.

A must-see

Lanson is one of those estates that can be visited without an appointment. However, it is sometimes advisable to book in advance. Tours are organized every day and take you on a journey of discovery of the region's grape varieties, including Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay. You will walk through the superb cellars and end the tour with a tasting of a sparkling Brut. In France, and in the Champagne AOC, a visit to the Lanson cellars is undoubtedly one of the region's must-see attractions.

The wines produced by Caves Lanson are all available for delivery and offer exceptional value for money. The reviews are unanimous on this point! Each product page highlights these customer and professional reviews.
