Maison Louis Roederer is one of the last remaining family-owned and independent grand champagne houses. Its estate extends over 250 hectares (composed of 240 plots) located in the heart of the 3 main terroirs of Champagne: the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne, and the Côte des Blancs. Maison Louis Roederer works with the 3 historic champagne grape varieties: Chardonnay, which brings minerality, finesse, and elegance; Pinot Noir, which structures the blends and prepares them for aging; and Pinot Meunier, which contributes to the harmony and softening of certain cuvées. The house practices "tailor-made" viticulture, precise and meticulous work, in respect of biodiversity and biodynamics.

Maison Louis Roederer is a champagne house that has evolved and enriched over time its Brut Premier cuvée, which has become the Collection Roederer cuvée, highlighting the singularity of each blend. It is a smooth, saline champagne with acidic notes. The house's vintage wines are absolutely remarkable, with a fleshy vinosity, a present gourmandise, and on the side of the Blanc de Blancs, a citrus note. The Vintage Rosé is full of nuances and offers a rich and surprising range of flavors. The Cristal cuvée remains, of course, the emblem of Maison Roederer, with a unique marriage of delicacy, smoothness, and chiseled aromas.

Champagne Louis Roederer: The Excellence of Champagne

The Different Grape Varieties of the House

The vineyard of Maison Louis Roederer is located in the heart of the three main terroirs of Champagne: the Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. This diversity offers a rich palette of creations thanks to its different grape varieties. The three historic grape varieties of Champagne are found here:

  • Chardonnay: appreciated for its finesse, minerality and elegance.
  • Pinot Noir: provides a solid structure and prepares the blends for aging.
  • Pinot Meunier: sweet and adaptable, it harmonizes and softens certain cuvées.

Vineyard Cultivation

The cultivation of grapes at Roederer is based on a clear philosophy: a great champagne can only come from a rich and well-tended soil. Thus, the house practices a "tailor-made" viticulture, providing adapted care to each soil profile, allowing to reach an exceptional maturity of the grapes.

This precision work is carried out in respect of biodiversity, integrating more and more principles of biodynamics. The grapes are harvested by hand with the greatest care and then pressed on the very place of the harvest. These steps guarantee the exceptional quality of the Louis Roederer champagnes. In addition, the house buys grapes from all over Champagne, ensuring a unique diversity and richness.

For Maison Louis Roederer, each terroir has a unique identity. The Montagne de Reims, with its steep slopes and chalky soil, produces Pinot Noirs of a remarkable structure. The Marne Valley, more hilly, is the kingdom of Pinot Meunier, offering wines with fruity and supple aromas. The Côte des Blancs, famous for its chalky soil, produces Chardonnays of an incomparable finesse and minerality. This mosaic of terroirs allows Roederer to create blends of a unique complexity and depth.

The Cellar Master and His Know-how

The current cellar master of Louis Roederer, Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, plays a crucial role in the elaboration of each cuvée. With his experience and passion for wine, Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon perpetuates the Roederer style while constantly innovating. He has notably introduced biodynamic practices in the vineyards and refined the blending techniques to sublimate each cuvée.

Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon pays particular attention to each step of the winemaking process. The grapes are carefully sorted before being delicately pressed. The fermentation is partly done in oak barrels, adding an additional dimension to the wine. The reserve wines are kept individually to preserve their purity and unique character, allowing for precise blends.

The Louis Roederer Style

The style of this prestigious house of Reims is characterized by a fresh and delicate nose, and a palate marked by beautiful fruit notes. The wood is little present in the aging of the wines, with oak barrels used to preserve the reserve wines, adding an elegant patina and more expressive fruity aromas. The years of aging add complexity to the wine, particularly beneficial to the vintages that reflect a unique season and harvest. Among the cuvées, the Cristal is reputed to defy time, its bubbles becoming slightly rarer but without losing their magic.

The Art of Blending

If one had to define the style of this house, one would speak of minerality and elegance. During the blending process, each step has a meaning and each gesture a precision. The technical sheet of each cuvée reflects this quest for fruity aromas. The champagnes, whether white or rosé, are available in a case or a box, with the Cristal offered exclusively in a box. The packaging is designed with recycled or responsible materials, such as 6-pack boxes, wooden boxes, or individual cases and boxes.

The blending process at Roederer is a true science. Each cru is selected for its specific qualities, and the reserve wines play an essential role in guaranteeing the consistency of the Roederer style from one year to the next. These wines, sometimes aged for several decades, bring depth and complexity to the cuvées, ensuring a rich and nuanced tasting experience.

All the cuvées are available in 24H delivery, including the boxes and the limited editions. The delivery can be made by the unit or by the box of 6. Each Louis Roederer product offers a unique quality/price ratio, promising an exceptional experience at each tasting.
