The vintage from Clicquot-Ponsardin

The Brut vintage from the Champagne house Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin is the interpretation of the character of a year through the prism and style of the Reims brand. It is the quality of the Pinots Noirs, Clicquot's flagship grape variety, which will essentially decide the cellar master whether or not to vintage. For Dominique Demarville, cellar master and success of the immense Jacques Péters, one should only vintage the years which have a very great aging potential like the years 1985, 1988, 1990, 1996, 1998, or more recently. 2002 and 2004.

The culture of vintage champagne at Veuve Clicquot

For the launch of the house's latest vintage, Vintage 2004, Dominique Demarville redefined the vintage according to Veuve Clicquot champagne. A cuvée which must be the exception and not the rule as it tends to become sometimes the case with certain houses which vintage almost every year. For the cellar master of the Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin house, in the future it will be necessary to vintage one year out of 3 or 4, no more, and except in very exceptional cases, there will not be two consecutive harvests which will give a vintage champagne. . The house’s next vintage will also be 2008. The vintage cuvée must also establish and assert its position in the Clicquot range, and no longer find itself stuck between the brut and the prestige cuvées, Grande Dame and Cave Privée.

A 2004 vintage in bottle, magnum and jeroboam

The launch of this 2004 vintage was also the occasion of a first for the Clicquot house: to market at the same time Vintage brut and Vintage Rosé. The 2004 was presented in 3 formats at this event: bottle, magnum and jeroboam. Formats that each benefit from the same dosage, namely 9gr / L for the brut and 7gr / L for the rosé.

Pinot noir reigns over vintage Clicquot champagne

Pinot noir is the common thread of the cuvées of Veuve Clicquot champagne, and it enters around 65% in vintage cuvées, an important part which results in vinous cuvées, with a beautiful structure and a remarkable aging potential.
