Cuvée Vintage 2008 is the fruit of Veuve Clicquot's excellence.
Made from a blend of 61% Pinot Noir (Ambonnay, Bouzy, Tauxières, Avenay, Aÿ, Verzy, Verzenay, Ludes), 34% Chardonnay (Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Vertus) and 5% Pinot Meunier (Ludes, Dizy), it is the perfect accompaniment to Comté cheese, smoked eel or Parmesan shortbread.
Like 2007, this Vintage cuvée has the particularity of containing 5% of wines vinified in wooden tuns. The resulting micro-oxygenation and the wood on the walls not only intensify the natural aromas, but also enhance the champagne's power.
The 2008 vintage is, along with 2002, the finest of the last decade, with Chardonnays possessing exceptional freshness and Pinots offering rare elegance.
The color is a delicate, brilliant gold, with a fine, persistent effervescence.
The nose, a true alliance of freshness and elegance, offers aromas of citrus and white-fleshed fruit (apricot, peach), quickly followed by greedy almond fragrances.
The clean, powerful palate is dominated by generous notes of candied citrus, dried fruit and brioche bread. The long, delicate finish promises good ageing potential of around 15 years.
