Each Collection is a step in the search for the ideal balance between maturity, freshness, and complexity. The 244th blend is based on the 2019 harvest, a sunny but controlled year, enriched by reserve wines from the House's perpetual reserve. The whole composition is a mosaic of plots from three areas: La Rivière, La Montagne, and La Côte.
Louis Roederer 's vineyards cover more than 240 hectares and form a coherent ecosystem, cultivated with constant attention to biodiversity. For this cuvée, the grapes come in equal parts from three areas: La Rivière (Marne), La Montagne (Reims), and La Côte (Côte des Blancs). These complementary terroirs combine power, tension, and salinity.
The 244th blend combines 54% of wines from 2019 (including 5% vinified in wood), 36% from the perpetual reserve (2012 to 2018) and 10% of reserve wines aged in wood. Approximately 35% of the wines underwent malolactic fermentation, softening the texture without compromising the freshness. The dosage is adjusted to 7 g/l to preserve the wine's natural tension.
This complex and harmonious structure expresses the spirit of Roederer: a dense yet airy texture, carried by the energy of chalk and the precision of the winemaker's touch. The magnum bottle enhances this alchemy, offering a slow evolution and an even more refined texture.
2019 was a contrasting year, warm and bright. Heat waves alternated with cool nights, promoting exceptional ripeness and intense aromatic concentration. The harvest, which took place from September 10 to 21, yielded rich, balanced grapes with perfectly integrated acidity. This vintage combines generosity and purity: a great Champagne classic.
Collection 244 celebrates the strong comeback of Meunier from the Marne and Montagne regions, which brings roundness and richness to the mouthwatering structure of Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. A masterful balance between juicy fruit and chalky freshness.
Bright golden yellow. Dense and regular effervescence with ultra-fine bubbles. The wine shines with its brilliance and visual depth, promising a full-bodied and lively texture.
Expressive and refined nose. Vine peach, William pear, and ripe citrus fruits. Iodine and smoky notes, hints of wet chalk and a slight noble reduction. Full-bodied and precise, with an elegant freshness.
Soft and caressing attack. Juicy, concentrated and mouth-watering texture. The palate stretches out over ripe fruit and a chalky line. The fine effervescence lightens the body. Long, pure and flavorful finish, marked by smoky and salty accents.
This magnum from Collection 244 pairs well with refined cuisine, combining richness and precision. Its density, balanced by a salty freshness, makes it a gastronomic champagne, ideal for tender textures and lightly toasted flavors.
The Collection 244 magnum is best stored in its original box, away from light and temperature fluctuations. Store at a stable temperature between 10 and 12°C, with humidity around 70%. Stored horizontally, it will slowly develop its aromas. The large format guarantees harmonious development and lasting freshness.
Ideal window: 2024–2034. In magnum format, the wine can be stored for a decade. It will gain in amplitude, revealing notes of brioche and dried fruit while retaining its chalky tension.
Serve at 10°C in tulip glasses. No decanting. Allow the wine to breathe for a few minutes before tasting. This service reveals the fullness of the fruit and the salinity on the finish.
