The 2016 Vintage embodies Louis Roederer's vision of a champagne aged with respect for the terroir and the raw materials. This cuvée pays tribute to the Pinot Noir from Verzy, planted on the first vines acquired by the house in the 19th century. This vintage fits perfectly into the history of the Roederer house.
The grapes come from the historic vineyards of Verzy (Montagne de Reims) and Chouilly (Côte des Blancs). The former, chalky and north-east facing, gives the Pinot Noir a deep, velvety fruitiness, while the latter, coastal and sunny, refines the wine's structure with an elegant, salty texture.
One third of the wines are vinified in wood (33%), which adds a touch of complexity and roundness. Only 5% of the wines undergo malolactic fermentation, thus preserving the natural freshness of the vintage. The wine is aged on lees in the cellar for several years, bringing mellowness, creaminess and subtlety. The dosage is 7 g/l, placing this cuvée in the Brut category.
The year 2016 in Champagne was marked by extreme weather. A cold, rainy spring gave way to a hot, dry summer, culminating in a heatwave in late August. The harvest, from mid-September to early October, benefited from ideal weather conditions, ensuring excellent ripeness. This climate allowed the Pinot Noirs to express themselves fully and the Chardonnays to develop beautifully, with structure and salinity. The final result is a Roederer vintage that is both full-bodied and expressive.
The color of the Vintage 2016 cuvée is a warm, bright, and shimmering gold, enlivened by a fine and dynamic effervescence.
The nose reveals a subtle and complex bouquet: ripe red fruits (Burlat cherry, redcurrant), candied citrus, hazelnut, all on a toasty, powdery and mineral background.
On the palate, this champagne offers a juicy and creamy attack, carried by silky bubbles. Notes of nectarine, warm chalk, woody spices and camphor linger on the palate in a salty and persistent finish.
To store this bottle in optimal conditions, keep it lying down, away from light and in a cool environment (42°F to 54°F). Choose a place that is free from vibrations and well ventilated.
Thanks to its structure and partial aging in oak barrels, the 2016 Louis Roederer Vintage can easily be stored for 8 to 12 years in a home cellar. It will gain complexity with time, especially in 75cl bottles.
This champagne is perfect for gourmet dinners, but also for birthdays or family celebrations. Its sophisticated profile also makes it a classy gift in its elegant case.
Since 2013, this cuvée has showcased the Verzy terroir through its Pinot Noir grapes. It pays tribute to the first vines acquired by the Roederer house in the 19th century and symbolizes the house's loyalty to its history.
The price of the 2016 Vintage Louis Roederer is 82,95 €. Its richness and partial aging in oak barrels make it a rare and sophisticated cuvée.
Customers highlight its finesse, depth and creaminess. The precision of its aromatic profile and its beautiful length on the palate are particularly appreciated. Reviews of the Louis Roederer Vintage 2016
