The production of the Collection 245 Louis Roederer champagne
This cuvée is an ode to the stylistic freedom and sustainable expertise of the Roederer house. The blend of the Collection 245 is based on three pillars: grapes from the 2020 harvest, a perpetual reserve (initiated in 2012) and reserve wines aged in wood.
- 41% Chardonnay: brings elegance, tension and minerality.
- 35% Pinot Noir: provides structure, intensity and complexity.
- 24% Meunier: adds roundness and fruity smoothness.
The terroir
The Collection 245 is made from equal parts of the house's vineyards:
- La Rivière: Marne Valley, rich and fruity expression.
- La Montagne: Montagne de Reims, structure and density.
- La Côte: Côte des Blancs, salty tension and chalky finesse.
These terroirs are complemented by grapes from plots selected in the "Heart of the Terroir" by partner winegrowers who share the same high standards of quality.
Vinification
The blend is based on:
- 55% of the 2020 harvest, a sunny and consistent vintage.
- 35% from our permanent reserve ( 2012-2019), for freshness and complexity.
- 10% reserve wines aged in wood (2010, 2013, 2015, 2017-2019), giving the Roederer patina.
The champagne undergoes partial malolactic fermentation (22%) and is dosed at 7 g/l, in Brut. The result: a creamy texture, vibrant freshness and a salty finish.
The 2020 vintage
A mild, wet winter followed by a hot summer punctuated by moderate heat waves produced grapes of great maturity. The rainy month of June re-balanced the growing season. The harvest, which took place from August 22 to September 11, 2020, produced rich, balanced, and precise wines. The Collection 245 is not strictly speaking a vintage, as it blends wines from 2020 with reserve wines. Discover our vertical tasting of the Roederer Collections
