The 2011 Comtes de Champagne from Maison Taittinger, presented here in magnum format, is a wine of great mineral power, dense and rich, with magnificent aging potential.
2011 was a good year for the vines, especially for the Chardonnays of the Côte des Blancs, giving the wines exceptional quality. This highly contrasting 2011 vintage was marked by early ripening and dry spring weather, which forced the vine roots to dig deep into the soil to find the water they needed to develop properly.
The Comtes de Champagne 2011 is a Blanc de Blancs made from Chardonnay grapes from the five Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Oger. These are unique terroirs, where the chalky soil allows the grapes to draw minerality, power, and finesse.
Only the "cuvée" is selected for the production of this great champagne, an absolute guarantee of finesse. Vinification is carried out mainly in stainless steel vats, but 5% of the wines are aged for four months in new oak barrels, one third of which are renewed each year to enhance the intrinsic qualities of the final blend of toasted notes.
The bottles are aged in the cellars of the House for 10 years, allowing this vintage to open up with extraordinary energy and aging potential.
The color is a beautiful golden straw yellow with a few light golden highlights, and the bubbles are fine, delicate, creamy, and captivating.
The nose reveals a world of maturity and voluptuousness with delicious notes of gingerbread, licorice, and meringue. It then opens up to aromas of white fruits, cherimoya, and mandarin peel subtly blended with delicate hints of almond pastry.
The palate is generous and chalky, giving it charm and precision. This smooth wine transports us with aromas of candied fruit and sweet spices such as anise and coriander.
Perfect for an exceptional celebration, this 2011 Comtes de Champagne cuvée from Maison Taittinger is ideal with a starter of seafood, fine shellfish or fish.
