Les Folies de la Marquetterie is the first terroir-driven champagne produced by Taittinger. It is an exceptional champagne, rich and complex.
It is a blend of 45% Chardonnay and 55% Pinot Noir, made exclusively from grapes grown in the Folies vineyard overlooking the Château de la Marquetterie, the Taittinger family's Champagne home.
The Château de la Marquetterie, located near Epernay, was the residence of the writer Jacques Cazotte before the French Revolution and the scene of country parties where philosophers and men of letters of the Age of Enlightenment met.
General de Castelnau made it his headquarters during the Battle of Champagne in 1915. And long before him, at the end of the 17th century, Brother Oudart, a Benedictine monk, discovered some of the secrets of champagne fermentation there.
In the Folies plots, green harvesting is carried out to achieve optimal sugar richness and ripeness.
Only the juice from the first pressing is used. Each plot is vinified in small batches and some lots are aged in oak casks. Finally, the Les Folies de la Marquetterie cuvée spends five years in the house's cellars to perfect its unique harmony.
