Comtes de Champagne 2013 is Maison Taittinger's flagship cuvée!

2013 was a very special year, as it was the last harvest in October. What used to be traditional has become the exception with global warming. Winter 2013 was particularly long and cold. Spring and summer were particularly warm, until mid-August. Then the weather turned cooler and wetter, allowing ripening to refine and the volume of the grapes to increase.

This cuvée is made from Chardonnay from the 5 Grands Crus villages of the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. These are unique terroirs, where the outcropping chalk allows the grapes to draw minerality, power and finesse.

For the production of this great champagne, only the "cuvée" is selected, an absolute guarantee of finesse. Most of the vinification is carried out in stainless steel tanks, but 5% of the wines are aged for 4 months in new oak barrels, one-third of which are renewed each year to enhance the intrinsic qualities of the final blend with its toasty notes.

The bottles are matured in the Maison's cellars for 10 years, allowing this vintage to open up with extraordinary energy and ageing potential.

This champagne has a limpid, brilliant color, with subtle golden highlights.

The nose is ample and generous, with notes of ripe citrus fruit and pastry that bring great precision.

The attack is lively, heralding an intense, saline and mineral mid-palate. There are lovely notes of ginger and licorice, as well as a fruity touch.

This Comtes de Champagne 2013 Taittinger can be kept for several decades. It's a champagne that goes wonderfully well with seafood, fine shellfish or fish.
