Bollinger's Special Cuvée, available here in a Methuselah bottle and delivered in a wooden case, is the purest expression of the style of one of the oldest Champagne houses.
The blend of this cuvée is remarkably consistent and stands out from other champagnes thanks to the addition of 10% reserve wine fermented in oak barrels, giving it a vinous character unique to Bollinger.
Few Champagne houses have achieved the undisputed reputation of Bollinger. Seriousness and consistency have been its greatest assets since the beginning of the 19th century, and the Spécial Cuvée is proof of this: a blend with a high proportion of Pinot Noir (minimum 60%) from several years, it asserts itself in a lively, full-bodied style with beautiful freshness, as the very embodiment of a "simple" non-vintage brut with great character and appeal. A success story that never fails to impress.
Bollinger's Special Cuvée has a beautiful pale golden yellow color with fine, generous bubbles.
The nose offers superb aromatic notes of apple, ripe apricot, citrus, followed by toast, brioche and hazelnut.
The palate is vinous, with the Chardonnay bringing finesse and freshness, and the Pinot Noir adding roundness and body. The fruitiness of the nose develops as the wine evolves.
The finish is long, fresh, and pleasant.
The Special Cuvée is a champagne of great class.
