Moët et Chandon's Grand Vintage 2013 is a superb, energetic, chiselled aperitif champagne. This cuvée is the 75th vintage in the 270-year history of the House, founded in 1743, and completes an almost unbroken sequence of vintage years in 3 since 1923.
The 2013 vintage was marked by a late vegetative cycle, with budburst on April 27. Spring brought plenty of humidity and prolonged periods of cool weather, favorable for growth. In July and August, temperatures were normal and rainfall low, but hail storms destroyed up to 600 hectares. The harvest took place from September 28 to October 15 in favorable, dry and relatively mild weather.
Moët et Chandon Grand Vintage 2013 is a blend of Chardonnay (41%), Pinot Noir (38%) and Meunier (21%). The wine is blended Extra-Brut at 5 g/L.
This cuvée has a yellow, slightly golden color, with fine, persistent bubbles.
On the nose, the wine is beautifully mature, with autumnal notes of roasted chestnuts, toasted buckwheat, walnuts, honey and nougatine. The bouquet then opens up to aromas of autumnal white fruits, dried flowers, pine sap and iodine nuances.
On the palate, the wine is straightforward and energetic, underpinned by lively, delicate acidity and a chiselled structure. The finish is long and marked by a fine bitterness of white grapefruit.
