Description
Insolite from Thevenet-Delouvin is a Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) of which only 400 bottles are made. It’s an experimental cuvee made by Xavier Thevenet in search of new aromatic experiences, and the result is rather pleasing.
Created in 2003, with a very low dosage (3,8 g/l), and fermented exclusively in barrel (both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation), it is a totally natural, totally authentic champagne.

Insolite is made from Chardonnays mainly from the right bank of the Vallée de la Marne, with only the best grapes, the « tête de cuvée » being used.
You could say it’s really a vintage champagne since all the grapes come from the 2003 harvest, an exceptionally sunny year.
Entirely fermented in oak barrels, the wine has not been filtered or cold stabilized.
It’s an unconventional cuvee which is astonishingly pure, with great elegance and length and which also has surprising smoky notes. If you wanted to guess which terroir it came from you’d have a hard time! And it’s a cuvee which is produced in tiny quantities.

Insolite Chardonnay from Thevenet-Delouvin has a light yellow robe with a yellowy green sheen and fine but numerous bubbles.
Nose
The nose is extremely agreeable with its floral and lightly honeyed notes.
Palate
In the mouth it reveals a fresh delicacy reinforced by a very active effervescence, and vivacious citrus notes.
Service
Served at 9°C, Thevenet-Delouvin Insolite Chardonnay makes a perfect aperitif with its balanced poise. With its incomparable style it is well named, as « Insolite » means unusual in French. The Cuvee Insolite Chardonnay by Thevenet-Delouvin is one of our favorites.
