The production of Champagne Louise Brison Mémoires de la Côte des Bar 2004

This cuvée is a 50/50 blend ofChardonnay and Pinot Noir, exclusively from the 2004 harvest. The aromatic objective: to capture the density of the vintage while revealing the elegance of the Kimmeridgian terroir of Noé-les-Mallets. Malolactic fermentation is blocked to preserve the wine's brightness and tension despite the richness of the year.

  • The Chardonnay (50%) brings tension, brightness, and chalky finesse.
  • Pinot Noir (50%) brings structure, fullness, and ripe fruit.

The terroir

The grapes come from the Noé-les-Mallets hillside, located at an altitude of 320 meters and facing south/southeast. The Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils give the wine a marked mineral base, typical of the Côte des Bar. This combination of altitude and exposure promotes slow and even ripening, producing juices that are both rich and taut.

Vinification

The wine is fermented and aged for eight months in oak barrels, without malolactic fermentation, to preserve its natural integrity. This cuvée is offered as Brut Nature (0 g/L), in keeping with the philosophy of purity of the Louise Brison house. This approach offers a remarkable balance between maturity and liveliness.

The 2004 vintage

The 2004 vintage is distinguished by generous and consistent weather conditions, producing perfectly balanced grapes. On the slopes of the Côte des Bar, it produced wines of great precision, marked by a straightforward tension and beautiful depth. In this cuvée, the 2004 vintage reveals a rare combination of freshness and maturity, enhanced by long aging in the cellar.

Tasting notes

  • Color

Deep gold with amber highlights. Fine, regular effervescence. The brilliant disc reflects the controlled maturity of the vintage.

  • Nose

Complex and mature. Aromas of candied yellow fruit, toasted hazelnut, brioche bread, and wet chalk. Aeration reveals notes of orange zest and blond tobacco.

  • Palate

Straightforward and full-bodied attack. Silky texture with persistent mineral tension. A harmonious blend of ripe fruit, mellow oak and a long, salty and vibrant finish.

Food pairing

The ripe richness of the vintage and the chalky tension of the terroir pair perfectly with silky-textured dishes.

Storage and serving

How to store this cuvée

Store the 2004 Mémoires de la Côte des Bar cuvée in a stable cellar at 10–12°C, with humidity close to 70%. This champagne, already matured, will continue to develop aromas of dried fruit and beeswax. Thanks to its natural balance, it can be kept for another 5 to 8 years to gain complexity.

Ageing potential

Optimal window: 2025–2032. In the early years, the wine retains its freshness and tension. Between 2027 and 2030, it reveals nuances of honey, hazelnut, and toast. After 2031, tertiary complexity takes over while maintaining a clear mineral structure.

How to serve Mémoires de la Côte des Bar 2004?

We recommend serving Mémoires de la Côte des Bar 2004 at 10–11°C in a fine tulip glass. This temperature allows the vintage's aromatic richness to express itself while preserving the wine's tension. A short aeration in the glass will bring out the toasted notes and chalky texture.
