Guy Charlemagne's Cuvée Mesnillesime 2012 is a remarkable interpretation of the terroir of Mesnil-sur-Oger. This village on the Côte des Blancs has one of the chalkiest soils in Champagne. Just scratch the soil a few centimetres and you'll find chalk. The Chardonnays that grow here have a crazy minerality and need many years to fully express themselves.
Cuvée Mesnillesime 2012 is made from the first cuvées, i.e. the best juices from the press.
It is a champagne partially vinified in oak barrels without malolactic fermentation. The dosage is Extra Brut, around 3g/l, to allow the full minerality and purity of Mesnil-sur-Oger to express itself.
Cuvée Mesnillesime 2012 Guy Charlemagne is pale in color with green highlights.
The nose is expressive, dominated by notes of brioche and sweet spices. The second nose opens with notes of candied citrus and a delicate hint of iodine.
The palate combines finesse and complexity with a discreet touch of oak.
The finish is long, well-balanced between fruit and freshness.
