The Avize 17 vintage from Valentin Leflaive is an exceptional Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru. Made from Chardonnay grapes grown in the prestigious Avize terroir, it expresses rare elegance, combining freshness, minerality, and aromatic complexity.
The Avize 17 cuvée is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes harvested from Grand Cru vineyards in the village of Avize, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. These 20-year-old vines enjoy a south-eastern exposure and grow on soils rich in chalk, giving them remarkable minerality. Located at an altitude of 150 meters, these vines benefit from an ideal microclimate for slow and even ripening of the berries.
The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by a fractional pressing to retain only the best juices. Fermentation takes place entirely in stainless steel vats to preserve the purity and freshness of the aromas. This cuvée includes 30% reserve wines, adding extra complexity. After bottling in April 2018, Avize 17 benefited from extended aging for 53 months on slats, developing a fine effervescence and beautiful aromatic richness. With a dosage of 5 g/L, this cuvée perfectly embodies the balance sought by Valentin Leflaive.
The 2017 vintage, the main base for this cuvée, was marked by complex weather conditions in Champagne. In Avize, the Chardonnay grapes revealed great freshness and a beautiful saline tension, perfect for expressing the purity and finesse of this exceptional terroir. The harvest yielded grapes of optimal ripeness, offering a perfect balance between acidity and aromatic richness.
A bright, luminous golden yellow color, accompanied by fine, persistent effervescence.
A rich and delicate nose, revealing citrus aromas such as lemon and grapefruit, complemented by notes of honeysuckle and a subtle chalky minerality.
The palate is precise and intense, marked by a beautiful saline tension and citrus flavors, offering a long and elegant finish.
