      Description

The 2008 Stanislas cuvée from Champagne Thiénot, offered here in magnum format, is a vibrant tribute to the founder's son, embodying the quintessence of the House's Blanc de Blancs. Produced from a legendary year in Champagne, this cuvée from the "Family Collection" brilliantly combines maturity acquired over time with unalterable freshness. Made mainly from Grands Crus, this great wine of patience offers a generous, buttery and chiseled interpretation of Chardonnay. It is a rare and precious gastronomic champagne par excellence, reaching the heights of harmony.

The production of the Stanislas 2008 Thiénot magnum

This champagne is a pure Chardonnay, sourced in accordance with the House's exacting standards: 90% of the grapes come from Grand Cru terroirs in the Côte des Blancs. The Stanislas cuvée is designed to be aged for a long time. This vintage was bottled in June 2009, marking the beginning of an exceptional period of aging in the cellars for over 10 years. This prolonged aging on lees allows the wine to develop its aromatic complexity while refining its texture.

      The Terroir

The selected Chardonnays come from the most noble chalk soils in Champagne. This geological origin gives the wine its mineral backbone and aging potential. Maison Thiénot favors careful viticulture, allowing the grapes to reach optimal maturity, which is essential for withstanding such aging without losing their liveliness.

      Vinification

Malolactic fermentation is carried out in its entirety (100%) to bring roundness and suppleness to the wine, counterbalancing the natural acidity of the 2008 vintage. A notable technical fact is that Maison Thiénot is a pioneer in the use of the "jetting" method. This technique limits the addition of sulfites (the wine has very low sulfite content) and preserves the aromatic purity against oxidation during disgorging. The dosage is extra-brut, at only 4 g/l, allowing the terroir and the maturity of the fruit to express themselves fully.

      The 2008 vintage

2008 is unanimously considered one of the greatest vintages of the century in Champagne. Characterized by a cool summer and a sunny, dry September, this year produced grapes with a sugar/acid balance bordering on perfection. The 2008 Chardonnays are renowned for their tension, crystalline purity, and immense aging potential, qualities that are magnified in this Stanislas cuvée.

The rarity of the magnum format

The magnum (1.5 liters) is the ideal format for this type of exceptional vintage. With only 800 magnums produced for this harvest (compared to 25,000 bottles), it is a collector's item of rare confidentiality. Beyond its exclusivity, the magnum offers an ideal volume/air ratio that slows down aging, preserving the brightness of the color and the freshness of the aromas for several decades.

      Tasting notes

      • Color

The color is a beautiful golden yellow, with lovely green highlights that testify to the Chardonnay's preserved freshness despite its age.

      • Nose

The nose is highly subtle and complex. It reveals notes of dried fruits such as hazelnut and pistachio, which evolve into delicious aromas of candied lemon, slightly buttery and brioche.

      • Palate

On the palate, the attack is both generous and fresh. The effervescence is smooth and caressing. The texture unfolds elegantly, offering a beautiful length carried by minerality and pastry notes.

      Storage and serving recommendations

How should this champagne be stored?

As this magnum is delivered unpackaged, it must be stored immediately away from light to prevent any unwanted flavors. Store it lying down in a cool (10-12°C), stable, vibration-free cellar. This bottle is designed for very long-term storage.

      Aging potential

The 2008 vintage is renowned for its exceptional structuring acidity. In this large format, it ages beautifully. It can be stored and will evolve positively until 2035-2040, or even beyond, slowly developing notes of mocha, white truffle, and toasted dried fruit while retaining its mineral tension.

      Serving suggestions

Serve this great wine at a temperature between 46°F and 48°F. A large white wine glass is recommended to allow the complex bouquet of dried fruit and brioche to fully open up.

      Anecdote about this cuvée

Thiénot's "Collection Famille" is a series of very personal vintages. The Stanislas cuvée is dedicated to Alain Thiénot's son, Stanislas, now Managing Director of the House. It represents Thiénot's masculine and structured vision of Chardonnay, echoing the Garance cuvée (dedicated to his daughter) which sublimates Pinot Noir.
