The 2020 Oenophile cuvée from Pierre Gimonnet & Fils is an ode to the terroir in its purest form, without any artifice.
A pioneer of the "Brut Nature" style since 1985, the House presents here its 21st edition of a non-dosage champagne, intended for purists in search of unadulterated emotions. Unlike other cuvées, the Oenophile is not the result of a predefined blend: it is selected from the vintages in the cellar when a wine reveals such perfect natural balance that it stands on its own, without the addition of sugar.
This Blanc de Blancs is a work of art, crafted by Didier Gimonnet, which highlights the geological diversity of the Côte des Blancs.
The year 2020 was characterized by early ripening and remarkable aromatic concentration. For Pierre Gimonnet Champagne, this vintage yielded Chardonnays of great integrity, allowing for the creation of a naturally balanced wine. The mineral tension of the limestone terroirs of Cuis here counterbalances the generous fleshiness of the grapes from Chouilly and Cramant, resulting in a cuvée that shines with its verticality and precision. This is a 2020 vintage of "substance" that beautifully supports the absence of dosage.
The color is crystalline, a pale gold with silvery highlights, traversed by a fine, persistent effervescence.
The nose is an immersion in the Côte des Blancs: it opens with aromas of fresh citrus and spring flowers, followed by an intense mineral dimension evoking flint and fresh almond.
On the palate, the attack is crisp and pure. One discovers a complex and exquisitely delicate wine, where the silky texture unfolds with elegance. The finish is remarkable for its signature mineral chalk notes, leaving the palate perfectly clean.
Thanks to its unblended structure and foundation of great terroirs, the Oenophile 2020 is built to age:
Serve this champagne between 9°C and 11°C. It is recommended to enjoy it in a white wine glass wide enough to allow the aromatic complexity to unfold without losing the effervescence.
The price of the 2020 Pierre Gimonnet Oenophile champagne is 56,95 £GB. Only 20,000 bottles of this cuvée are produced each year.

It is made entirely from grapes grown in the Côte des Blancs, with a predominance of Grands Crus from Chouilly and Cramant.
The 2020 vintage offers excellent aging potential. Ideally, it should be enjoyed for its mineral intensity between 2026 and 2028, and will reveal notes of dried fruit and toasted brioche if cellared until 2034.
Thanks to its lively character and lack of sweetness, this Blanc de Blancs pairs perfectly with seafood such as oysters, scallop carpaccio, sushi, or aged hard cheeses like aged Parmesan.
