The production of Perrier-Jouët's Belle Epoque 2016 champagne
The terroir & the plot
The Belle Epoque 2016 cuvée is a blend of Grand Cru plots from the Côte des Blancs for the Chardonnay and the Montagne de Reims for the Pinot Noir, notably Verzy and Mailly-Champagne. These chalky terroirs give the cuvée its fine structure and floral signature.
Vinification
This vintage cuvée is composed of:
- 50% Chardonnay: the house signature, floral finesse, purity.
- 45% Pinot Noir: structure, elegance, silky fruitiness.
- 5% Meunier: round and fruity touch.
The wine is aged for at least six years in the cellar before disgorging. It is dosed at 8 g/L, in a balanced brut style that preserves its aromatic brilliance and natural delicacy.
The 2016 vintage
2016 was a contrasting year in Champagne. After a cool, wet spring, the summer was particularly hot and dry, with harvesting beginning in late September in dry, sunny weather. These conditions allowed for slow but complete ripening, producing very expressive grapes with a good balance between sugar and acidity. The result in the Belle Epoque 2016 cuvée is a wine of great aromatic finesse, with restrained richness and subtle energy. A faithful interpretation of the floral and precise style of the Perrier-Jouët house.
