The 2020 Special Club cuvée from Marc Hébrart is a very well-rounded champagne, combining finesse, richness, and balance. It is the perfect cuvée to accompany a nice aperitif, but also refined dishes.
The history of Special Club
Created in 1971, the Club des Trésors de Champagne originally brought together a dozen of the best winegrowers in Champagne. Their aim was to raise awareness of the unique characteristics of winegrowers' champagnes, which is why they decided to create a prestigious champagne called Spécial Club. Each member of the club must offer their best cuvée under the name Spécial Club.
And in 1988, to strengthen the visual identity of this cuvée, a specific bottle was adopted. This bottle is still used today by the 28 members of the Club des Trésors de Champagne.
The production of the 2020 Special Club champagne Marc Hébrart
This exceptional cuvée is a blend of 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay from Premier and Grand Cru terroirs. The selected plots include Faubourg d'Enfer, Croix Blanche and Buisson Saint Loup in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, as well as vines in Louvois. These terroirs, rich in chalk and clay, bring finesse and complexity to the wine.
Vinification takes place in small temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for precise fermentation control. Malolactic fermentation is initiated to ensure a silky texture and exceptional freshness. After 36 months of aging on slats, the champagne is dosed as Extra Brut, enhancing the balance between intensity and liveliness.
The 2020 vintage
The 2020 vintage in Champagne enjoyed particularly favorable weather conditions. Alternating summer heat and cool nights, the grapes reached perfect maturity, combining aromatic richness and natural acidity. The Pinot Noirs stand out for their intensity, while the Chardonnays bring a dazzling freshness that is the hallmark of this exceptional vintage.
