The Mesnil-sur-Oger Cooperative is one of only two cooperatives in Champagne authorized to use the village name as a trademark. Le Mesnil-sur-Oger is one of the most iconic Grand Cru villages in the Côte des Blancs. It is a terroir with chalky, poor soils that force the vines to dig deep into the ground for nourishment. The result is grapes with great freshness and immense minerality.
2014 was another technical year, with a summer marked by difficult weather conditions: cold and damp. More clement weather from August 15 onwards allowed us to produce a fine vintage that has not yet revealed all its secrets.
This 2014 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes grown in the Grand Cru terroir of Mesnil sur Oger. Vinified in stainless steel vats to preserve maximum freshness and lightness, the wine is then bottled and stored in cellars several dozen meters underground. The tirage is carried out in 2015 and disgorging in March 2022, resulting in a complex and well-structured champagne. This cuvée is also distinguished by its unique blend, composed of half wines that have undergone malolactic fermentation and half wines without malolactic fermentation, which preserves the freshness and liveliness of the Chardonnay while adding depth on the palate. The sugar dosage of 6.5g/L provides a perfect balance between acidity and roundness.
The 2014 Le Mesnil vintage has a bright golden color with a slight amber hue, accompanied by a fine, persistent mousse that forms an elegant string of bubbles.
On the nose, this cuvée reveals lovely notes of fresh fruit, but also a palpable minerality. On the second nose, after a few minutes of warming, more indulgent notes emerge, with a touch of brioche.
On the palate, the 2014 vintage reveals a lovely lively attack, dominated by citrus notes (lemon, grapefruit) and a hint of physalis on the finish. The structure is elegant, with a creamy texture and marked minerality, typical of the Mesnil terroir. The finish is long, supported by beautiful tension and lingering freshness, magnified by the low dosage.
The price of a bottle of 2014 Le Mesnil vintage champagne is 53,95 €. This price reflects the Grand Cru origin of the grapes, the precision of the winemaking process and the long aging in the cellar, which give this cuvée unparalleled richness and complexity. Excellent value for a champagne of this quality.
Reviews of the 2014 Le Mesnil are unanimous: this cuvée seduces with its balance, freshness, and long finish. Chardonnay lovers particularly appreciate its mineral profile and liveliness on the palate, making it a champagne of choice for special occasions.
