The Grande Cuvée 172nd Edition Krug is a generous and complex champagne. Based on the 2016 harvest, this 172nd edition is characterized by its freshness and very broad aromatic palette.
The production of La Grande Cuvée 172th Edition Krug
La Grande Cuvée 172nd Edition by Krug is the result of a blend of 146 wines from 11 different years, ranging from 1998 to 2016. This masterful work, led by Cellar Mistress Julie Cavil, embodies Joseph Krug's dream of creating a champagne that expresses all the generosity of the region, regardless of the harvest year.
The blend is composed of 44% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay, and 20% Meunier. The reserve wines, which represent 42% of the final blend, bring depth and complexity. Julie Cavil chose to block malolactic fermentation to preserve freshness. This champagne is dosed as Brut and has benefited from seven years of aging in the cellar.
The 2016 base vintage
This edition is based on the 2016 vintage, a year marked by extreme weather conditions. A rainy spring followed by a summer heatwave led to a late harvest, from September 9 to October 2. This diversity of weather conditions produced exceptionally rich grapes, with citrus notes in the Chardonnays, remarkable Pinot Noirs, and subtle Meuniers.

The Grande Cuvée 172nd edition has a pale, brilliant gold color with fine, lively bubbles.
Nose
On the nose, aromas of flowers, candied citrus fruits and toasted brioche mingle with hints of almond and acacia honey.
Palate
On the palate, it is an explosion of flavors: hazelnut, nougat, citrus jelly, and brioche. The texture is both full and precise, with a remarkably fresh finish.
