Cuvée Celebris 2008 from Maison Gosset is an unprecedented champagne, combining power and finesse in masterly balance.
The blend is 54% Chardonnay and 46% Pinot Noir. Grapes from the finest Champagne terroirs (Ambonnay, Avenay, Avize, Aÿ, Bouzy, Cramant, Cuis, Cumières, Trépail, Vertus, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger). Cellar master, Odilon de Varine, has chosen to vinify and age the wines in stainless steel tanks, while blocking malolactic fermentation, in order to allow the fruit aromas to express themselves fully, but also to obtain great ageing potential.
Once bottled, the Gosset Celebris 2008 is transferred to the cellar, where it develops its aromas for 12 years. This champagne is very lightly dosed (4.8g/l), just enough to provide a fine balance between freshness and vinosity.
This 2008 vintage is only the 8th edition of the Celebris cuvée. It's a highly anticipated vintage for champagne connoisseurs, as the 2008 harvest was one of the most balanced in the last 20 years.
This cuvée is pale gold in color, with fine, discreet bubbles.
On the nose, Celebris 2008 Gosset reveals beautiful notes of white acacia flowers, jasmine and mimosa. There are also hints of pear and mirabelle plum. The bouquet is rich and heady, vinous yet airy.
On the palate, pastry aromas evoke pear cake, vanilla madeleine and sabayon. The finish is long and saline.
This cuvée is a perfect match for hard cheeses, meats such as poultry, quenelles and sweetbreads.
