The 2013 vintage from Charles Heidsieck is a cuvée apart, characterized by the generosity that is the hallmark of the Charles Heidsieck style, but also by the freshness of the 2013 harvest, the last to take place in October.
The 2013 vintage was particularly late, but the glorious summer provided maximum sunshine and low rainfall, ideal conditions for the Chardonnays and Pinots to ripen. The autumn harvest produced elegant wines with a pronounced freshness.
This 2013 vintage is made from the finest wines of the Montagne de Reims (Tauxières, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Louvois), the Vallée de la Marne (Aÿ, Avenay) and the Côte des Blancs (Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Vertus, Avize, Oger). Only Premiers and Grands Crus are used. The blend is based on 57% Pinot Noir, which provides structure, vinosity and power, complemented by 43% Chardonnay, which adds tension and deliciousness.
The late harvest in October brings unique aromatic concentration and energy.
The 2013 Charles Heidsieck vintage has been aged for nine years in the house's chalk cellars, a process that has given it its unique patina.
This is a champagne with an intense, brilliant golden color. Its bubbles are fine and delicate.
On the nose, there are intense and powerful notes of ripe yellow fruit, but also a hint of spice.
On the palate, the 2013 Charles Heidsieck opens with an elegant, mineral attack without being too lively. Then, in the mid-palate, we discover aromas of fruit, indulgence, and generosity. The texture is very elegant and creamy. The finish lingers for several seconds with fruity notes and a touch of saltiness.
This is a cuvée that will pair well with fine cuisine.
