Charles Heidsieck has decided to offer a handful of bottles from the legendary 1979 and 1989 vintages. These are bottles, magnums and jeroboams from the Charles Heidsieck oenotheque, located in the deep chalk pits beneath the house.
1989 was marked by a very cool spring, followed by a hot summer. The harvest began on September 4, which was early at the time, and produced some very fine grapes. Winter and spring frosts even produced second bunches, which were harvested in October.
This Brut Millésime 1989 is a blend of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay. It was cellared in 1990 and disgorged in 1998.
Only 360 bottles of this Collection Crayères have been offered for tasting by Charles Heidsieck.
This champagne has a very intense golden color.
On the nose, this cuvée offers spicy notes, followed by aromas of roasted hazelnuts and pine honey.
On the palate, this 1989 Collection Crayères offers a rich, generous attack, underlined by a silky mouthfeel. Notes of cinnamon and ginger.
A fine effervescence supports the finish.
