The 2020 Les Champs de Romy cuvée from Champagne R. Faivre is a Blanc de Blancs from a single plot, Les Champs Robin, in Belval-sous-Châtillon. A true family tribute, this cuvée bears the name of the winemaker's daughter and illustrates the rare expression of Chardonnay in a terroir dominated by Meunier.
Vintage and highly precise, it seduces with its luminous fruit, delicate texture, and salty finish.
The production of Champagne R. Faivre Les Champs de Romy 2020
Made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes from the 2020 harvest, this single vineyard cuvée reflects the Faivre family's desire to explore all the subtleties of this grape variety in the Marne Valley.
- Chardonnay (100%) brings freshness, brightness, purity, and mineral tension.
The terroir
Sourced exclusively from the "Les Champs Robin" plot in Belval-sous-Châtillon, this cuvée derives its uniqueness from brown limestone soils with a clayey tendency on hard limestone. The altitude and exposure favor slow ripening, ideal for Chardonnay. The cultivation practices are exemplary: pruning to limit production, plowing, grass cover and manual leaf removal, without herbicides or insecticides. This care gives the grapes remarkable tension and aromatic expression.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place entirely in stainless steel vats to preserve the purity of the fruit. Malolactic fermentation is carried out to soften the texture and add a touch of roundness. After cold stabilization and light filtration, the wine is bottled under cork for a long aging period of 30 months in the cellar. The Extra Brut dosage (1.5 g/L) reinforces the tension and mineral precision of the wine.
The 2020 vintage
The 2020 vintage produced ripe, concentrated grapes, balanced by beautiful acidity. In this cuvée, it reveals a Chardonnay that is both generous and crystalline. The Belval terroir, rarely dedicated to this grape variety, expresses a rare originality here: exotic fruit, a silky texture, and a chalky finish. A masterful, sunny vintage with vibrant elegance.
