Grand Blanc Extra-Brut 2009 Philipponnat, presented here in magnum, is a fruity champagne with a creamy texture, ideal as an aperitif or with fish and shellfish.
2009 was a year of contrasts, with a harsh winter followed by a stormy spring. Fortunately, five weeks of hot, dry weather just before harvest meant that the grapes were in exceptional condition. The vintage is very fruity and of moderate aciditý.
This cuvée is made from Chardonnays sourced exclusively from the Premiers and Grands Crus terroirs of the Côte des Blancs. The wines are vinified partly in stainless steel tanks, with partial malolactic fermentation, and partly in wood, without malolactic fermentation.
The Grand Blanc 2009 Philipponnat is an elegant wine that required only very light dosage (4.25g/l) to perfect its balance and preserve its purity. The cuvée spent 9 years in the house cellars to develop its aromas and bring out its secondary and tertiary flavors.
This champagne has a pale gold color, with green reflections and very fine bubbles.
The nose is expressive and elegant, evoking stone fruit and exotic fruit.
On the palate, the wine is supple, round, carried by a creamy texture. The aromas of ripe yellow fruit discovered on the nose are repeated. The finish is broad, generous and greedy.
Grand Blanc 2009 Extra-Brut Philipponnat is a champagne to be served as an aperitif, but also to accompany poached white fish or Breton lobster.
