Cuvée 1522 Grand Cru Extra Brut 2013 from Maison Philipponnat, presented in magnum, is a rich, generous champagne with fruity notes, and sublimated by the great freshness of the 2013 vintage.
Cuvée 1522 is an exceptional champagne built around the Terroir of Aÿ. A genuine tribute to the year the Philipponnat family settled in the village of Aÿ, it is made from Pinot Noir (70%) and Chardonnay (30%) from parcels classified as Grand Cru.
The Pinot Noir comes mainly from the historic "Léon" vineyard in Aÿ. The Chardonnay comes from the vineyards of Verzy, one of the finest chalk terroirs on the Montagne de Reims.
The 2013 vintage is a classic in Champagne, with the harvest taking place in October, an increasingly rare occurrence. The grapes thus offer a magnificent balance of ripeness and freshness.
Most of the wine is vinified in stainless steel vats, but some is vinified in wood and does not undergo malolactic fermentation in order to retain its freshness.
Cuvée 1522 Grand Cru Extra Brut 2013 Philipponnat is very lightly dosed (4.25g/l), to let the wine's acidic touch and tension express themselves perfectly.
Cuvée 1522 Grand Cru Extra Brut 2013 Philipponnat is a brilliant, intense gold. Its bubbles are fine and lively.
On the nose, we discover an expressive, gourmand champagne, evoking pretty notes of stewed fruit, evolving towards aromas of caramel, toasted brioche and acacia honey, culminating in a slightly vanilla finish.
On the palate, this is a rich, generous wine with light spicy touches. On the midpalate, notes of apricot and yellow peach stand out. The finish is long and fresh, with light notes of acacia flowers.
The 1522 Millésime 2013 Philipponnat will go wonderfully well with seafood, poached or grilled fish, or even fatty poultry such as capon.
