Grand Vintage 1990, the House's 60th, is an exceptional wine, considered by connoisseurs to be one of the greatest vintages of the 20th century.
The nose is powerful and complex. Ripe, brown and sweet. Warm cookie, smoky malt and mocha protect delicate notes of vanilla stick, verbena and candied zest. The palate is remarkably complete and harmonious. Full-bodied, thick, warm and mellow, it finishes with the strength and brilliance of coffee. The balance is perfect.
After a very mild winter, hot, dry weather in March brought an early start to vegetation.
Bud break occurred at the end of March. Generous rainfall in the last few days before the harvest enabled the grapes to develop and the bunches to reach a very satisfactory weight. Harvesting began between September 11 and 20.
Favored by the hot summer weather, 1990 produced wines of excellent constitution. An exceptional homogeneity of potential alcoholic degrees and acidities, across all grape varieties and crus, was the major characteristic of this harvest.
