The Poétique de la Terre cuvée from Mailly Grand Cru is a champagne in a class of its own. It is a cuvée that has been created to highlight the identity of the Pinot Noir grapes from the Mailly Grand Cru terroir, vinified in oak barrels.
The finest Pinot Noirs from Mailly-Champagne were selected for this cuvée. These are Pinot Noirs from the excellent 2016 harvest (70%) which were blended with the Pinot Noir reserve. A third of the wines were aged in oak barrels before being bottled. The cuvée then spent seven years in the chalk cellars of Mailly.
Another distinctive feature of this cuvée is that it is marketed in two stages. The first half of the 6,792 bottles produced will be released in 2023. This is known as Variation 1, while the second half will be aged for several more years before being released with a more developed, mature aroma.
La Poétique de la Terre VXI.1 Mailly Grand Cru has a deep golden color and fine bubbles.
On the nose, this champagne offers toasted, roasted, and fruity notes.
On the palate, you will find the energy of great Pinots, followed by the roundness brought by aging in wood. It is fruity and very well-balanced on the palate.
