The production of Louise Brison's 2020 Chardonnay de la Côte des Bar

Chardonnay de la Côte des Bar 2020 is a single-varietal cuvée made from 100% Chardonnay. The Louise Brison estate has produced a full-bodied, refined wine, carried by perfectly mastered oak aging.

      The 2020 vintage

2020 marks a turning point for the Louise Brison estate: it is the first vintage to be certified organic. The year got off to an optimal start, followed by a hot, sunny summer. The vines were not affected by any adverse weather conditions until early August, allowing for a healthy and perfectly ripe harvest. This sunny vintage has produced expressive wines with generous fruit, balanced by a beautiful acidity.

      The terroir

The grapes come from a south/southeast-facing hillside at an altitude of 320 meters, located in the Côte des Bar. The soil is Kimmeridgian clay-limestone, known for its ability to bring tension and finesse to Chardonnay. This terroir gives the wine a mineral structure and a beautiful length on the palate.

      Vinification

Malolactic fermentation is carried out to bring roundness. The wine is aged for 9 months in oak barrels. Bottling takes place in July 2021, followed by disgorging in November 2022 with a very low dosage of 2 g/L. The wine is produced without filtration or fining, respecting its integrity.

      Tasting notes

      • Appearance

The color is light yellow with golden highlights, enlivened by a fine, lively effervescence.

      • Nose

The nose seduces with its freshness and complexity, blending aromas of citrus, white flowers, and hazelnut. With aeration, slightly woody notes appear, well integrated.

      • Palate

The palate is taut, straightforward and elegant. The texture is silky, supported by beautiful acidity. Notes of candied lemon, white fruit and chalk are present. The finish is mineral and persistent.

      Storing this champagne
