The 2007 Prestige Grand Cru vintage produced by the Le Mesnil cooperative is a champagne that combines freshness, minerality, and power. A champagne for connoisseurs.
The Le Mesnil-sur-Oger cooperative is one of only two cooperatives in Champagne authorized to use the village name as a trademark. Le Mesnil-sur-Oger is one of the most iconic villages in the Côte des Blancs. It is a terroir with chalky, poor soils that force the vines to dig deep into the ground for nourishment. The result is grapes with great freshness and immense minerality.
The 2007 Prestige cuvée is made from old Chardonnay vines facing south. These vines have low yields, producing grapes with highly concentrated aromas.
This champagne is made without malolactic fermentation in order to preserve maximum tension and energy in the wine.
Vinified in stainless steel vats to preserve maximum freshness and lightness, the wine is then bottled and stored in cellars several dozen meters underground.
The 2007 Grand Cru Prestige cuvée has a deep golden color with fine, delicate bubbles.
On the nose, this cuvée reveals the typical notes of mature Chardonnay, with aromas of praline, undergrowth, brioche, and caramel.
On the palate, the 2007 Prestige vintage starts with a round but still young attack. Then, in the mid-palate, the wine's beautiful texture highlights notes of candied citrus and lemon. The finish is magnificent, lingering on the palate for several seconds.
This wine would pair well with a nice cheese platter or white fish in cream sauce.
