Description

The Les Garennes 13-23 cuvée from Champagne Georges Laval is the freest and most lively expression of the Laval style: a blend of clear wines from ten years (2013 to 2023), aged in barrels and combining the three Champagne grape varieties. A cuvée of rare harmony, blending fruit, freshness, structure, and salinity.

The production of Champagne Georges Laval Les Garennes 13-23

Les Garennes is crafted like a wine of soil and time: a blend of Meunier, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay from several historic villages, complemented by a reserve aged over a decade. Each vintage is aged in barrels for 1 to 20 years, allowing the wine to develop structure without excessive woodiness. The extra-brut dosage of 1 g/L (organic grape sugar) completes the cuvée's natural balance.

  • Meunier • Pinot Noir • Chardonnay from Chambrecy, Damery, Cumières, and Hautvillers.
  • 2013 → 2023: blend of ten years, aged in old barrels.

The terroir

The grapes come from several terroirs on the historic slopes of the Marne Valley. The heart of the blend is based on Meunier from Chambrecy, complemented by reserve wines from Cumières, Damery, and Hautvillers. The Cumières terroir, a south-facing Premier Cru, offers a typically warm and sunny microclimate, set on a substrate of chalk and fine sand. The entire estate has been certified organic since 1971, with extreme care taken to preserve soil life, root systems, and biodiversity.

Vinification

The vinification process is entirely natural: manual harvesting, traditional pressing, no oenological inputs, fermentation in barrels with indigenous yeasts, no fining or filtration. The wines are topped up weekly to preserve freshness and precision. After blending, the wine is drawn off and the bottles are left to rest on their lees for a long period. 9,340 bottles of Garennes 13-23 were produced. Disgorging took place in November 2025.

Tasting notes

  • Color

Bright golden, with fine, slender effervescence. Brilliance reflecting the purity of the fruit and the maturity of the blend.

  • Nose

Precise aromas of delicate red fruits (morello cherry), juicy pear, white peach, orange zest, and white flowers. Notes of sweet spices, a touch of menthol, and a hint of wet chalk from long aging in barrels.

  • Palate

Ample and energetic attack, vibrant fruity heart. Crunchy red fruits, lemony tension, salty texture. The texture, initially rich, tightens on a fine, chiseled chalky grain. Long, mouthwatering and racy finish.

Food pairing

An expressive and vibrant cuvée, its natural salinity and structured energy make it a gastronomic champagne.

Storage and serving

How to store this vintage

Store Les Garennes 13-23 between 10–12°C in a dark, stable cellar with 70% humidity. Thanks to its several years of aging and oak maturation, this vintage will gain complexity, developing notes of dried fruit and fine spices.

Aging potential

Aging potential: 8 to 12 years. During the first 5 years, the wine reveals its fruity energy and salinity. Between 6 and 10 years, it gains depth, texture, and spicy character. At the end of its aging period, it develops a delicate and harmonious maturity.

How to serve Les Garennes 13-23?

Serve Les Garennes 13-23 at 10–12°C in a tulip or thin universal glass. A little aeration reveals the floral, chalky and mentholated nuances of the blend.
