Description

The Cumières Premier Cru Brut Nature cuvée from Champagne Georges Laval is one of the most elegant expressions of the Cumières terroir. A blend of the three main Champagne grape varieties, it is a vibrant, precise champagne with great depth.

The production of Georges Laval Cumières Premier Cru Brut Nature Champagne

This cuvée comes exclusively from Premier Cru plots in Cumières, where the grapes are harvested at perfect maturity. The aim of this cuvée is to produce a faithful interpretation of the Cumières terroir.

The terroir

The grapes come from south-facing slopes in the heart of the Marne Valley. The Cumières terroir is renowned for its deep chalk, light soils, and warm microclimate. Certified organic since 1971, the plots are meticulously tended: natural grass cover, plowing between rows, preserved biodiversity, and careful control of yields. This approach produces intense, straightforward wines marked by a natural salinity.

Vinification

Vinification follows the house's unchanging principles: traditional press, alcoholic fermentation in 1- to 20-year-old barrels with indigenous yeasts, weekly topping up, no fining or filtration. After blending, the second fermentation takes place in the bottle, then the wine rests for a long time on its lees to gain depth and precision. Disgorging is carried out without dosage (Brut Nature), preserving the aromatic integrity of the terroir.

Storage and serving

How to store this cuvée

Store Cumières Premier Cru Brut Nature at 10–12°C in a dark, stable cellar. Thanks to its structure and oak aging, it will develop greater depth and complexity over 6 to 10 years, revealing notes of dried fruit and even more pronounced tension.

Aging potential

Aging potential: 6 to 10 years. In the early years, the wine expresses its tension and aromatic frankness. After 4–6 years, it gains roundness, spicy notes, and complexity. At the end of its aging period, it develops an elegant maturity and assertive minerality.

How to serve Cumières Premier Cru Brut Nature

Serve Cumières Premier Cru Brut Nature at 54–56°F in a thin tulip glass or a universal glass. Light aeration will highlight its purity, chalky energy, and controlled vinosity.
