The Charles de Gaulle cuvée from Champagne Drappier embodies power and elegance, paying homage to the famous General. Its subtle citrus and almond aromas, combined with a light mousse, make it an ideal champagne for aperitifs or to accompany refined dishes.
The Charles de Gaulle cuvée from Drappier is the champagne that the general loved to drink. A loyal customer of the house, his property, La Boisserie, in Colombey-Les-Deux-Eglises, is located a stone's throw from the Drappier estate.
It was thanks to his aide-de-camp, Colonel de Bonneval, that he discovered Drappier champagne and became a fan.
The Charles de Gaulle cuvée was created and launched in 1990 to mark the 50th anniversary of the appeal of June 18, using the same blend that the general loved.
The Charles de Gaulle cuvée is therefore made from a blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, offering a generous structure and aromatic finesse. The grapes come from the Kimmeridgian limestone soilsof Urville, in the Aube region, a terroir that gives this champagne its unique minerality.
The wines are aged partly in wood, which adds an extra aromatic dimension. Malolactic fermentation is carried out to bring roundness and depth. After bottling, the champagne rests on its lees for 36 months, developing a rich and nuanced aromatic palette. The dosage is 6.5 g/l, achieving a perfect balance between structure and freshness.
The Charles de Gaulle cuvée has a bright golden color, revealing beautiful maturity.
The nose is very refined, offering aromas of citrus, apple andalmond, with a delicate hint of nutmeg.
On the palate, this cuvée reveals remarkable complexity and an airy mousse. The slightly candied flavors bring a delicious note to the finish.
The price of a bottle of Charles de Gaulle Drappier is 46,95 €. With its meticulous vinification and refined blend, this champagne embodies the elegance of Drappier and the power of the Champagne terroir.
