The Brut A04 Grand Cru, here in magnum format, by Christian Gosset is the fourth iteration of the non-vintage champagne that opens his range. It is a full-bodied, broad champagne with great minerality.
Christian Gosset is a young winemaker aged 58! After 35 years of experience gained on the family estate, he decided to strike out on his own and create his own champagnes.
The Brut A04 cuvée is based on the 2019 vintage, a remarkable year in Champagne, marked by beautiful sunshine. This base year is blended with approximately 45% reserve wines. This cuvée is a blend of 85% Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru terroir of Aÿ in the Marne Valley and 15% Chardonnay from the Grand Cru terroir of Chouilly in the Côte des Blancs and Aÿ.
Vinification is carried out partly in enamel tanks and partly (15%) in oak barrels to impart a slight patina. Vinification is carried out with minimal intervention, without filtration or cold treatment. The wine is lightly dosed at 3 g/L.
This cuvée has a yellow color with light golden highlights.
On the nose, this champagne reveals notes of ripe fruit, followed by more pastry-like aromas and finally a hint of iodine.
On the palate, the attack is clean, then in the mid-palate, the cuvée finds its balance thanks to a rich and vinous structure. The effervescence gradually melts away to create a softer texture. The finish is very long, tense, mouthwatering, slightly astringent and adorned with a hint of liquorice bitterness.
The Brut A04 Grand Cru cuvée produced by Christian Gosset can be enjoyed as an aperitif but also pairs well with fish and meat with fairly firm textures such as red mullet, tuna, pike, game birds, pork, or rabbit; fine cured hams; and hard cheeses.
