The production of Bollinger's PN TX 20 champagne
The House of Bollinger has chosen to highlight a unique expression of Pinot Noir through this cuvée. The PN TX 20 edition is based on a 2020 blend, enriched with reserve wines dating back to 2006. True to the house's high standards, the selection focuses on the best plots.
The PN TX 20 cuvée is made exclusively from Pinot Noir. Bollinger's flagship grape variety is magnified here in a Blanc de Noirs version. Mainly sourced from the village of Tauxières, supplemented by villages such as Avenay and Verzenay. It brings structure, aromatic intensity and a vinous profile marked by notes of red fruits, spices and dried fruits.
The terroir
The main cru, Tauxières, is located on the Montagne de Reims. This village is known for its chalky soils mixed with clay and marl, giving the wines a mineral tension and beautiful density. The contributions from Avenay and Verzenay reinforce the structure with more fruity and floral nuances. Together, they perfectly illustrate the complexity of Champagne Pinot Noir, which is both generous and structured.
Vinification
Bollinger favorsthe exclusive use of cuvée (the first juices from pressing, which are the purest and highest quality). Fermentation and aging take place in stainless steel vats and barrels depending on the batch, combining precision and complexity. The aging period in the cellar is more than twice as long as the appellation requirements, giving the cuvée remarkable maturity. The dosage is deliberately limited to 4 g/L, which accentuates the wine's clarity and freshness without masking the expression of the terroir.
The 2020 vintage
The base of PN TX 20 is the 2020 vintage, a year marked by contrasting weather conditions in Champagne. After a cold winter and an early spring, the hot summer accelerated the ripening of the grapes. Pinot Noir demonstrated its ability to retain freshness and structure despite these conditions. Bollinger's decision to blend in older reserve wines enriches the aromatic profile of this edition, which combines immediate liveliness with evolving depth.
Tasting notes
Color
The color of Bollinger's PN TX 20 champagne is adorned with subtle golden highlights, luminous and elegant. The effervescence is fine, regular, and persistent, the true signature of careful vinification.
Nose
The nose reveals notes of dried flowers, enriched with aromas of tobacco, mocha, licorice, and dried fruit. This complex and discreet bouquet evolves into a subtly spicy dimension.
Palate
On the palate, the cuvée reveals a lively, fruity side: cooked apricot, peach, and exotic fruits. This is followed by notes of acacia honey, fresh walnuts, and spices. Storage and serving tips
Storing this champagne
To preserve the finesse of this cuvée, it is recommended to store the bottle in a cellar or dark place at a stable temperature (40-54°F) and with a humidity of around 70%. The bottle should be stored horizontally so that the cork remains moist and ensures a perfect seal.
Aging potential
Although ready to drink now, the PN TX 20 cuvée has an aging potential of 7 to 10 years in the bottle. The aromas will evolve towards more mature and complex notes (honey, dried fruit, spices) over time. In magnum format, the aging process will be even slower and more harmonious.
Serving suggestions
Serve this champagne between 44 and 46°F to fully appreciate its freshness and complexity. Use large tulip glasses to allow the aromas to blossom. Decanting is not necessary, but allowing it to rest after opening will enhance its elegance.
