The Extra Brut V.17 cuvée from Maison Lenoble, presented here in Magnum format, is a vibrant and precise interpretation of the 2017 vintage. True to the House's philosophy, this champagne is distinguished by the unique use of reserve wines stored in corked magnums, bringing exceptional freshness and aromatic complexity. With its minimal dosage (2 g/l) and generous proportion of perpetual reserve wines, it is an "Intense" wine that combines lively fruit with a creamy, salty texture. The Magnum format, ideal for aging, enhances this harmony and offers a special tasting experience.
The blend of this cuvée is based on a precise balance between the three Champagne grape varieties: 40% Pinot Noir for structure, 35% Pinot Meunier for fruitiness and roundness, and 25% Chardonnay for elegance and finesse. The uniqueness of this V.17 edition lies in its composition: it blends 55% wines from the 2017 harvest with a major proportion of 45% perpetual reserve wines, guaranteeing the wine's depth.
The grapes come from the estate's historic terroirs, chosen for their complementary qualities: Pinot Noir from Bisseuil (Premier Cru) brings body, Chardonnay from Chouilly (Grand Cru) offers chalky minerality, and Pinot Meunier from Damery (Vallée de la Marne) lends its characteristic richness.
A signature of Maison Lenoble, some of the reserve wines used in this blend were aged in magnums sealed with corks. This rare method preserves the freshness of the wines while developing a complex aromatic palette (autolysis). The wine is then aged in cellars to perfect its harmony. The dosage is Extra-Brut, reduced to 2 g/L, for a pure, straightforward expression without artifice.
This cuvée is built around the 2017 harvest. Despite a demanding wine-growing year, the rigorous selection of grapes and the significant contribution of the perpetual reserve (45%) have resulted in a wine of great consistency, where the tension of the vintage is perfectly enveloped by the richness of the reserve wines.
The color is an intense golden yellow with slight silvery highlights. The effervescence is very refined, forming a delicate and persistent string of bubbles, a sign of controlled aging.
The nose is expressive and complex, blending notes of white fruit (apple, pear) and citrus with warmer touches of brioche and sweet spices, inherited from the aging of reserve wines.
On the palate, the attack is lively and precise. The wine reveals a silky and full-bodied texture, typical of the Magnum format. There are aromas of yellow fruit, crushed blackcurrant, and a hint of fresh ginger. The finish is long, salty, and thirst-quenching.
The Magnum format (1.5L) is the king of storage. It offers an ideal volume/neck ratio that slows down aging and promotes the development of the wine. Store it lying down, away from light and at a constant temperature (68-59°F).
The Extra Brut V.17 Magnum is ready to drink now for its vibrant freshness. However, thanks to its size and structure, it has greater aging potential than a standard bottle and will develop beautifully in the cellar for 5 to 8 years.
Serve this champagne chilled, between 9 and 10°C. Take the time to open it a little before serving to allow the wine to open up, especially in this large format, which preserves the youthfulness of the aromas.
