Les Ronsures is located on the lower slopes of the Grand Cru village of Bouzy, in the heart of the Côte des Noirs. This 0.8-hectare plot, planted with Pinot Noir using massal selection for over 30 years, lies on Campanian chalky soil. The soil is worked by ploughing, with an environmentally-friendly approach combining organic and biodynamic principles with traditional practices where necessary.
Harvested in the 2020 vintage, this cuvée is vinified entirely in oak barrels, and aged for 8 months on lees. The wine is then bottled under cork, with a brut nature dosage (0 g/l). Malolactic fermentation is not sought in order to preserve the wine's natural tension and expression of terroir.
2020 is shaping up to be a very fine vintage in Champagne, marked by a warm spring and rapid ripening of the grapes. In Bouzy, this sunny year enabled the Pinot Noir to achieve an optimal balance between concentration and freshness. The chalky soils played their role as water regulators, ensuring a fine aromatic precision to the juices.
Ronsures Pinot Noir Grand Cru 2020 is a deep golden color with subtle pink highlights, revealing the maturity of the vintage.
The nose reveals aromas of ripe red fruit, cinnamon andsweet spices. A fine reduction lends further depth, while chalky notes underline its origin.
Full-bodied, structured and supported by firm acidity. The wine unfolds on a saline, mineral framework, with a dense texture. The finish is long, with a chalky chewiness and remarkable persistence.
The price of Nicolas Maillart's Les Ronsures Pinot Noir 2020 champagne is 99,95 €. This Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru produced in confidential quantities will appeal to lovers of singular, expressive champagnes.
