Withits chalky elegance and Burgundian character, the 2020 Ronsures Chardonnay Grand Crufrom Nicolas Maillart is a unique Blanc de Blancs that offers a rare insight into the Bouzy terroir. Renowned for its Pinot Noir, Bouzy delivers a unique interpretation of Chardonnay in a generous, structured and resolutely gastronomic style.
A single-vineyard cuvée from the heart of Bouzy
The Ronsures 2020 cuvée comes from a plot of just 0.9 hectares, located at the bottom of the hillside on the pure white soils of the Campanian. Planted with Chardonnay over thirty years ago, this vineyard benefits from deep chalky soil that gives the grapes a marked tension and mineral expression.
The vines are tended with great care: the soil is plowed, natural rhythms are respected, and a gentle approach to plant health is taken, combining organic and biodynamic principles with conventional solutions where necessary.
Haute couture winemaking
The 2020 harvest was vinified entirely in oak barrels, without malolactic fermentation, in order to preserve the natural brightness of the grape variety and magnify the identity of the vintage. The wine was aged for eight months on fine lees to bring richness and complexity without masking the purity of the fruit.
Bottling under cork and a Brut Nature dosage (0 g/L) further highlight the finesse and tension of this signature cuvée.
The 2020 vintage in Bouzy
The year 2020 in Champagne was marked by hot, dry weather, with an early spring and a bright summer. In Bouzy, a renowned Grand Cru village in the Montagne de Reims, these conditions allowed the grapes to ripen exceptionally well, particularly the Chardonnay on the coolest plots. The early harvest yielded perfectly healthy, concentrated and aromatic grapes with an excellent balance between sugar and acidity. On the chalky soils at the bottom of the hillsides, the grapes retained a beautiful natural tension, allowing us to produce structured, precise wines with great potential for development.
