Withthe intense signature of Bouzy Grand Cru Pinot Noir, the 2020 Jolivettes cuvée from Champagne Nicolas Maillart is a true ode to the terroir. From an exceptional location, this single-vineyard cuvée offers a powerful, racy, and mineral interpretation of Pinot Noir, vinified 100% in oak. A brut nature champagne with remarkable structure, intended for lovers of great wines with character.
The Jolivettes vineyard is located on the limestone hillsides of the prestigious Grand Cru village of Bouzy, on the Montagne de Reims. The 0.58-hectare plot has been planted with mass-selected Pinot Noir since 1987. The soil is a mixture of chalk, clay and Campanian limestone, giving the wines both depth and tension.
The vines are cultivated using an agroecological approach, combining soil plowing, organic and biodynamic treatments when conditions allow, with rigorous attention to the natural balance of the plant and soil.
Harvested during the 2020 vintage, this Pinot Noir Grand Cru is vinified entirely in oak barrels, without malolactic fermentation. This method gives the cuvée depth, complexity and beautiful aromatic complexity. The wine is bottled with zero dosage (Brut Nature) to allow the terroir to express itself with maximum purity.
The 2020 vintage was marked by sunny weather, rapid flowering, and an early harvest. In Bouzy, this year has produced powerful, ripe, and precise Pinot Noirs. The chalky terroir of Jolivettes has given the wine remarkable tension, balancing the richness of the vintage with intense mineral freshness.
The color is a deep golden with copper highlights, animated by a fine, lively effervescence.
The nose reveals great depth with notes of black cherry, black tea and cinnamon, supported by elegant woody aromas and a slight reduction typical of great wines aged in wood.
On the palate, the attack is full and structured. The wine displays powerful substance, supported by firm acidity and chalky minerality. The finish is long and intense, with notes of ripe fruit and spices and a subtle salinity.
The price of a bottle of Nicolas Maillart's Jolivettes Grand Cru 2020 champagne is 99,95 €. This exclusive cuvée, vinified in wood, will appeal to lovers of powerful and complex champagnes, tailor-made for fine dining.
Lovers of great terroirs praise the precision and depth of this cuvée. The renowned critic Richard Juhlin describes it as "the new flagship of the house," awarding it a score of 95/100. See reviews of Jolivettes 2020.
