The La Barbette 2022 cuvée, made by Domaine Sacy Soeur et Frère, is a vintage champagne from the 2022 harvest on the Montagne de Reims.
This is a cuvée that speaks of red fruit and white fruit, with a touch of oak. The texture is vinous (it has real body), drawn taut by a crisp, mineral freshness.
This magnum is one you can open at aperitif time, with cheese gougères made with Comté for instance, and then bring back to the table alongside turbot with beurre blanc or roast pigeon with cherries. Only 100 bottles were produced.
The Terroir
La Barbette 2022 is a Blanc de Noirs, which is to say it is made entirely from Pinot Noir.
The Pinot Noir comes from the terroir of the Montagne de Reims in Champagne, where Sacy Soeur et Frère farms its vines. This terroir is classified Grand Cru, the highest rank on the échelle des crus (the classification that ranks the villages of Champagne). It denotes the region's most celebrated terroirs.
On this terroir, Pinot Noir gives the wine structure and depth.
Winemaking
Jonathan Sacy, winemaker at Sacy Soeur et Frère, chose to age this La Barbette 2022 Pinot Noir in barrel. The oak lends the wine toasty, woody notes that sit alongside the fruit. Malolactic fermentation is complete (the conversion of the grape's sharp acidity into a softer one): it rounds out the wine and gives it a velvety texture.
The bottle was closed with a cork stopper. The wine is a Brut Nature, meaning no sugar has been added at all: there is no sweet roundness on top, and it keeps its full precision.
Disgorgement (the step that removes the sediment formed in the bottle) took place in December 2025.
The 2022 vintage
2022 is a vintage (a wine made from a single year's harvest) marked by heat. On the Montagne de Reims, as across the rest of Champagne, a mild, dry winter gave way to a warm spring. A dry summer followed, punctuated by welcome storms in July and August. This generous sunshine brought the Pinot Noir to early ripeness. Picking began early, on very sweet, perfectly healthy grapes. This sun-soaked year gives La Barbette its ripe fruit and generous roundness, in keeping with a Grand Cru.
