Intense, mineral, and extremely refined, Philipponnat's 2014 Clos des Goisses cuvée is the purest expression of the Champagne terroir. Made from grapes grown in the Clos des Goisses, a 5.83-hectare south-facing vineyard in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, this cuvée reflects the exceptional microclimate of this unique terroir.
With a predominance of Pinot Noir (71%) complemented by Chardonnay (29%), it is partially vinified in oak barrels (64%) without malolactic fermentation in order to preserve its natural freshness. Eight years of extended aging on lees in the House's historic cellars at a constant temperature of 54°F gives this champagne remarkable complexity and depth. The very low dosage of 4.25 g/L allows the minerality and vinosity of this exceptional terroir to fully express themselves.
Clos des Goisses is one of the oldest vineyards in the region, dating back to the 17th century. Located on the steepest hillside in Champagne, it benefits from optimal southern exposure. The soil consists of pure chalk, which is close to the surface, providing ideal conditions for growing vines. This exceptional terroir gives Clos des Goisses a unique minerality and remarkable aging potential.
The 2014 Clos des Goisses cuvée is a blend of 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay, reflecting the composition of the vineyard. Partial vinification in oak barrels (64%) brings complexity and roundness, while the absence of malolactic fermentation preserves the wine's freshness and natural acidity. Prolonged aging on lees and low dosage allow the champagne to retain all its purity and minerality.
Each bottle is aged for eight years on lees in the House's historic cellars in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, at a constant temperature of 54°F. This extended aging gives Clos des Goisses exceptional aromatic complexity and depth, while preserving its freshness and liveliness.
Golden, brilliantcolor with a fine, persistent stream of bubbles.
Complex aromas of ripe yellow fruit, mirabelle plum, Reine-Claude plum, white flowers (acacia, vine), with a slightly toasted finish.
Enveloping and fruitytexture, with notes of honey, lime blossom, and a mineral and salty finish, reflecting the purity of the terroir.
Store the bottle horizontally, away from light and temperature fluctuations, ideally between 10–12°C. Avoid vibrations and excessive humidity to preserve the wine's aromatic finesse and freshness.
Clos des Goisses 2014 can be enjoyed now for its purity and freshness, or kept for 10 to 20 years to develop more complex nuances of ripe fruit, flowers, and minerality, while retaining its liveliness.
Serve between 44–50°F (10–12°C) in a tulip glass or fine flute. Allow the wine to open up for a few minutes to reveal its full finesse and aromatic complexity.
