This cuvée is the result of a precise blend:
The Clos des Goisses vineyard, located in Mareuil-sur-Ay, is one of the few clos in Champagne and the oldest. Its exceptional terroir, where chalk is close to the surface, promotes perfect drainage and optimal ripening of the grapes. Vinification is partially carried out in oak barrels (64%), which adds complexity while preventing premature oxidation.
In order to preserve all the energy of the terroir, malolactic fermentation is avoided, allowing the wine's natural acidity to balance its great power. This approach guarantees a champagne with exceptional aging potential, capable of evolving over time while retaining its tension and minerality.
Finally, the wine is aged for eight years on lees at a constant temperature of 12°C in Philipponnat's historic cellars. Its extra-brut dosage (4.25 g/l) preserves the purest expression of Clos des Goisses.
The 2014 vintage saw contrasting weather conditions in Champagne. After a mild, rainy winter, spring was warm and sunny, encouraging early bud break. The rainy summer required increased vigilance, but thanks to rigorous sorting at harvest, the grapes remained in excellent condition.
The vines at Clos des Goisses were particularly resistant to the vagaries of the weather. The chalky soil and maximum sunshine on this steep slope produced perfectly ripe grapes with exceptional concentration and well-preserved acidity. The harvest, which took place from September 13 to 25, produced a structured champagne with great intensity and excellent aging potential.
Le Clos des Goisses 2014 reveals an intense golden color with a string of fine, persistent bubbles.
Its expressive nose opens with notes of yellow fruits such as mirabelle plum and Reine-Claude plum. With aeration, floral hints of vine blossom and acacia appear, followed by a subtle toasted finish.
The palate is full and intense, marked by fresh fruit, honey, and a hint of lime blossom. The finish reveals superb mineral tension and an elegant touch of saltiness.
Presented in an elegant box, the Clos des Goisses 2014 is a real gem for collectors and lovers of fine champagnes. Its unique terroir and exceptional vintage make it a prestigious gift, perfect for marking special occasions.
Clos des Goisses owes its name to its extreme slope, "Goisses" meaning a very steep hillside in old Champagne dialect. The first vineyard to be vinified and blended separately in Champagne, it is instantly recognizable by its south-facing exposure and the unparalleled power of its terroir.
Already aged for a long time in the cellar, this champagne is offered at perfect maturity. However, it will continue to evolve gracefully for several decades in the cellar, developing ever greater complexity.
The price of Clos des Goisses 2014 Philipponnat in a gift box is 319,95 €. This cuvée is distinguished by its unique terroir, its prolonged aging, and its perfect balance between power and finesse. An essential reference for lovers of great champagnes.
Connoisseurs praise its intensity and depth. It is often described as an exceptional champagne, on a par with the world's greatest wines. Read reviews of the 2014 Clos des Goisses from Philipponnat.
