      Description

The 2019 Les Mussettes cuvée is part of Champagne Girard-Bonnet'ssingle vineyard range, which explores the purest expressions of the Mesnil-sur-Oger terroir. Produced from an iconic parcel of the estate, it illustrates the pursuit of precision and purity that guides the House's approach.

The production of the 2019 Les Mussettes cuvée

      Blend

The 2019 Les Mussettes cuvée is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes from Mesnil-sur-Oger, which bring freshness, tension, and chalky finesse.

This blanc de blancs comes exclusively from the Les Mussettes plot, planted in 1971. This old vine stock, selected from massal selection, gives the wine great aromatic complexity and a balanced structure.

      Terroir

Located in the historic Mesnil-sur-Oger sector, the plot rests on clay-limestone colluvium derived directly from Campanian chalk. This configuration promotes slow and even ripening of the grapes. The constant presence of chalk enhances the minerality and saline tension typical of this Grand Cru terroir. The northern exposure tempers the heat of the 2019 vintage and ensures a natural balance between richness and freshness.

      2019 Vintage

The 2019 vintage was characterized by a hot, sunny summer, producing grapes at optimal ripeness while retaining good natural acidity. The Chardonnays from Mesnil-sur-Oger express a straightforward, precise profile of remarkable purity. Les Mussettes 2019 combines density, texture, and mineral tension in a perfectly balanced structure.

      Vinification and aging

Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, in oak barrels and stainless steel vats. Aging lasts 11 months in barrels, on fine lees, before bottling. The wine then rests for 50 months on racks in the estate's cellars. Disgorging took place on October 15, 2024. The dosage is minimal (1 g/L – Extra Brut) in order to preserve the purity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir.

      Tasting notes

      • Color

The color is a bright, light gold with silvery highlights. The fine, regular effervescence reflects the long maturation on lees.

      • Nose

The nose opens with notes of fresh citrus and white fruit, supported by a floral touch and a slight hint of brioche. The overall impression is one of great aromatic clarity, typical of Mesnil-sur-Oger.

      • Palate

On the palate, the wine is taut, precise, and salty. The texture is silky, balanced by chalky acidity and a sensation of mineral energy. The finish is long and straightforward, marked by persistent freshness and lingering notes of candied citrus.

      Storage and serving tips

      Storage

Store bottles horizontally away from light, between 10 and 12°C. Temperature variations and vibrations can alter the finesse of the bubbles and the purity of the aromas.

      Aging potential

The 2019 Les Mussettes cuvée can be enjoyed now for its vitality and precision. Over 5 to 10 years, it will develop aromas of dried fruit and fine pastries. After 15 to 20 years, it will gain in breadth and complexity, while retaining its mineral structure and tension.

      Serving

Serve between 10 and 12°C in a fine tulip glass. Avoid decanting in order to preserve the aromatic precision. Gradual aeration in the glass will reveal the salty and floral nuances of Mesnil.
