      Description

The 2017 Le Clos de l'Abbaye, produced by Maison Doyard, is a Blanc de Blancs of great elegance, produced in 1,250 bottles and 130 magnums.

The Chardonnay for this cuvée comes from a single half-hectare plot, isolated and planted on the Vertus Premier Cru terroir. These old vines, dating back to 1956, produce low yields but offer highly concentrated wines. Its exposure, limestone soil and surrounding Clos give this plot a very early ripening. This Clos effect offers a more powerful approach to Chardonnays from the Côte des Blancs.

The 2017 vintage was marked by a severe frost at the end of April, but the rest of the growing season looked promising until heavy rains at the end of August dashed the hopes of the Champagne producers. The best producers carried out drastic sorting in the vineyards to eliminate rot. As a result, vintage wines are relatively rare for 2017.

The selected grapes are pressed and then vinified exclusively in oak barrels aged at least five years, with no malolactic fermentation.

The wine is bottled in May 2018 and dosed Extra-Brut at 2 g/L to preserve its personality and not mask anything.

On the nose, the bouquet expresses beautiful, delicious aromas of white and yellow fruits and citrus zest.

On the palate, the wine is rich and generous, with a long, mineral finish.

The 2017 Le Clos de l'Abbaye from Maison Doyard is a wine with great aging potential that will enhance gourmet dishes.
