Cuvée Le Clos de l'Abbaye 2016, produced by Maison Doyard, is a champagne of great elegance. Only 1,000 Blanc de Blancs are produced per vintage.
The Chardonnay for this cuvée comes from a single, isolated half-hectare parcel planted on the Vertus Premier Cru terroir. This old vineyard, dating back to 1956, produces low grape yields but very concentrated wines. Its exposure, limestone soil and surrounding Clos give this parcel a very early ripening character. This Clos effect offers a more powerful approach to Côte des Blancs Chardonnays.
This cuvée is vinified entirely in oak barrels aged a minimum of 5 years, with no malolactic fermentation.
The wine is dosed at 2 g/L Extra-Brut to preserve as much of the character and particularities of its terroir as possible.
This cuvée reveals lovely aromas of white and yellow-fleshed fruit and citrus zest. The palate is rich and generous, with a long, mineral finish.
Maison Doyard's Le Clos de l'Abbaye 2016 is a great wine to accompany refined dishes.
