Les Pierres Robert Aÿ Grand Cru 2019, produced by Christian Gosset, is a racy, tense champagne with a strong character.
This cuvée is made from Pinot Noir grapes grown on a single plot, Les Pierres Robert, in the commune of Aÿ Grand Cru. Planted in 1992, this plot is located at the bottom of the hillside, facing south, on a moderate slope with chalky soil.
Vinification is carried out entirely in oak barrels, as naturally as possible, without filtration or cold treatment. The wine is very lightly dosed at 1 g/L after disgorging in June 2023.
This cuvée has a pale gold color, dotted with a fine, lively effervescence.
The nose is complex and seductive with notes of pear and exotic fruits, complemented by vanilla, anise, thyme, and almond milk, followed by pastry aromas.
On the palate, the effervescence is invigorating and the texture is fluid, well balanced by citrus-driven acidity. This balance becomes warmer, more woody and salty after the mid-palate.
The finish is very long and accompanied by a chalky sensation and a hint of bitterness, fading away on a salty note.
This Les Pierres Robert Aÿ Grand Cru 2019 champagne, created by Christian Gosset, will pair beautifully with firm-fleshed dishes such as seared tuna cubes, open-sea oysters and seaweed croutons, bonito or sea bream carpaccio, breaded shrimp, or semi-dry goat cheeses.
This wine has excellent aging potential.
